Modern painters discovered that a few flat blocks of colour, placed with care, can say more than a crowded canvas. Your wardrobe works the same way.
The three-block formula
Pick one hero colour, one supporting colour and one neutral. Wear the hero on the largest area, the support on a smaller piece and let the neutral tie it together through shoes or a bag.
- Cobalt top, tangerine trousers, white sneakers
- Fuchsia knit, olive skirt, tan loafers
- Lilac shirt, tomato red trousers, cream bag
Keep the shapes simple. Colour blocking is about the colours meeting each other cleanly, so clean necklines and straight hems work better than ruffles or prints.
If you are unsure, wear the boldest colour closest to your face.
